I've got a feeling there are some real locker room issues with this team. I'm really hoping that doesn't mean another mass exodus, and I especially hope it doesn't mean losing our one bright spot among young players in Devon Daniels. This sucks.

My BIG frustration with the ARod offense was that our personnel changed to better fit a more wide open spread offense. We showed moments of succcessfully utilizing those personnel in spread packages, but we never let go of the old offensive tendencies and often regressed more towards those tendencies as the seasons progressed.

It seems like we were conceptually committed, and committed from a recruiting standpoint, to a more dynamic spread offense but tethered (out of a sense of familiarity or comfort?) to a more conservative power offense.

I think the word "tether" is apt, because like a tether ball, every season we started out offensively sort of wide open, high flying, and less aware of our tether only for things to get progressively tighter, more constrained, and less free as we wrapped around the pole of offensive mediocrity.

Maybe some people are confident that TT has fixed the offense, and that that fix will translate to more wins. The only thing that feels "fixed" to me, is that it finally feels like that tether is cut. I'm not sure where this unleashed ball will bounce, but I'm much more excited to bounce into the unknown than be pounded around the pole of mediocrity again.

My only preference is that it's not undecided. Troy Taylor has never installed a new offense at this level, and I think that install goes more smoothly and chemistry develops sooner if we find a QB.

The candidates:

Troy Williams
Troy has all the physical attributes including a big arm and running ability. He has leadership skills evidenced by being chosen a team captain. But he was bad in 2016. His passing efficiency was worse than every season played by Hays, Wynn, and Travis. His red zone performance was especially bad. He was also not an effective runner. We thought it was the knee sprain, but after some rest his bowl performance was just as bad. Have we seen the real Troy Williams or is the best yet to come?

Tyler Huntley
The kid has swagger, and people close to the program love his potential. His bowl performance was IMO unequivocally better than Troy's. He's small, and we haven't really seen the deep ball. Does one more year in the program give him a leg up?

Cooper Bateman
He was listed as a Pro-Style QB out of HS and signed at a powerhouse school that ran a pro-style offense. That was a mistake, because Cooper Bateman is a dual threat QB meant to play in a spread offense. I followed the QB battles in Bama a bit, and the big knock on Bateman is that he doesn't throw a good long ball.

So, who do you like?

That's a great breakdown.  Interesting perspective given the analysis. The concern there is the small data set for both Huntley and Bateman.  Williams' numbers came against the best defenses in the PAC12, USC and Washington. Huntley's come from spot duty. Bateman had only one start, against Mississippi St, and he lost his job to a Fr who can't throw.

Still, if he goes to WR then my angst is resolved.

He's good. I'm not sure if he's already had his official visit to Oregon, but getting him to SLC this late in the process is good.

TJ Green (RB)- Oregon State commit
I like this guy a lot two. Would be happy if we could flip either.

Devin Lloyd (S)
Two star ranked kid with few offers but raw with great measurables. My guess is he holds a gray shirt offer with a chance for earlier enrollment if we have any decommits.
